چکیده

Background Peptide YY (PYY) and neuropeptide Y (NPY) are members of the PP-fold peptide family. PYY is expressed by endocrine cells of the gut, whereas NPY occurs in enteric, sensory, cerebral and autonomic neurons. While PYY is involved in the regulation of gut function and satiety, NPY is known to contribute to the regulation of emotionalaffective behaviour, cognition, seizure activity, pain and satiety. Since we have previously found that the NPY system plays a role in the gut-brain axis, we explored in which way knockout of PYY and PYY plus NPY alters the emotional-affective behaviour in mice and how this phenotype is altered by experimental colitis.

P 119: Role of Gut Bacteria on Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease that is the most common type of dementia.AD includes 60_80% of dementia and most people with AD have more than 65 years old.AD causes losing neuronal activity by abnormal proteins. Plaques of beta-amyloid and tangles of “tau” protein can lead to AD. Recently evidence has found that AD may come from outside of central nerv...

Interaction between Intestinal Microbiota and Serotonin Metabolism

Gut microbiota regulates the production of signaling molecules, such as serotonin or 5-Hydroxytryptamine: 5-HT in the host. Serotonin is a biogenic amine that acts as a neurotransmitter in the gut and brain. There is a perfect interaction between human gastrointestinal microbiota and the serotonin system. The gut microbiota plays an important role in the serotonin signaling pathways through the...

Neuropeptide Y, peptide YY and pancreatic polypeptide in the gut–brain axis

The gut-brain axis refers to the bidirectional communication between the gut and the brain. Four information carriers (vagal and spinal afferent neurons, immune mediators such as cytokines, gut hormones and gut microbiota-derived signalling molecules) transmit information from the gut to the brain, while autonomic neurons and neuroendocrine factors carry outputs from the brain to the gut. The m...

Psychobiotics and Brain-Gut Microbiota Axis

Fermented foods containing probiotic bacteria have been used for many years to improve the health or treatment of some diseases. Nowadays, the Therapeutic properties of probiotics are becoming more and more obvious to everyone, insofar as in recent years, more attention has been paid to the potential relation between gut microbiota and mental health. Several studies have shown that intestinal m...

PYY transgenic mice are protected against diet-induced and genetic obesity.

The gut-derived hormone, peptide YY (PYY) reduces food intake and enhances satiety in both humans and animals. Obese individuals also have a deficiency in circulating peptide YY, although whether this is a cause or a consequence of obesity is unclear. Our aims were to determine whether peptide YY (PYY) over-expression may have therapeutic effects for the treatment of obesity by altering energy ...
